Lifestyle Secrets from Destiny's Child
Destiny’s Child, one of the world’s best-selling female groups, has an image
and a style that’s recognised worldwide. Here, Tina Knowles, creator of the
world-famous Destiny’s Child style and mother of Beyonce Knowles, shares the
group’s shopping, sewing, and lifestyle secrets, inspiring fans young and old to
add a little Destiny Style to their life.
Destiny’s Child has graced the covers of magazines everywhere. The group’s
individuality both musically and style-wise has captured the media’s attention,
and influenced women worldwide. Beyonce Knowles and her friends began their song
and dance routines at Headliners, Tina Knowles’ very successful salon in
Houston. Since that time, Beyonce and her friends have gone on to become one of
today’s hottest groups – Destiny’s Child – and Tina their costume designer,
stylist and housemother. In this book, Tina not only shows how to dress as part
of Destiny’s Child, but shares shopping, cooking, decorating and entertaining
tips. She demonstrates how to incorporate Destiny’s Child style and traditions
into home decorating and entertaining. She also shares the group’s favourite
recipes, from her old-fashioned gumbo recipe (which is so good that rap star JZ
flies to Houston to have a bowl) to Beyonce’s favourite peach cobbler.
Beyonce's fashion destiny
In what is becoming a rite of passage for top music stars, Beyonce Knowles
is adding fashion designer to her list of credits.
Beyonce plans to launch two clothing collections by next year, reports the
fashion trade paper Women's Wear Daily.
Her design collaborator will be her mother, Tina Knowles, who's also Beyonce's
stylist and the author of Destiny's Style: Bootylicious Fashion, Beauty and
Lifestyle Secrets From Destiny's Child.
"People my age love fashion and want to dress in designer clothes, but can't
afford it," said Beyonce.
"I want to do something that is affordable, but sophisticated and sexy and
feminine - something I would wear."
The first line will be more "funky and hip-hop," featuring T-shirts and jeans,
while the other will be more like a designer collection with feminine dresses
and separates.
"We want to bring some of the couture look to a broader public," the elder
Knowles said.
Destiny's Style : Bootylicious Fashion, Beauty, and Lifestyle Secrets from
Destiny's Child
This book can apply to women and men! Tina Knowles tells that a person should
develop there own look using color, fabrics etc.
It's funny how Tina writes that a person is bootylicious, when they come up with
their own stlye. But when a person follows all of the latest fads etc., they are
nasty/trasy. And I couldn't disagree. It's a good read
Tina Knowles, Zoe Alexander - Destiny's Style : Bootylicious Fashion,
Beauty, and Lifestyle Secrets from Destiny's Child
A good read...but really a good buy?
A longtime fan of Destiny's Child, I enjoyed this book. It was an inside peak at
the lives of the triple platinum trio...but I found the price a little sketchy.
Tina Knowles (Beyonce's Mom) also gives tips on how to look awesome, but the
majority of these tips are old. Really...how does she expect us to run around
customizing everything, and it'll turn out looking amazing? Hmmm. If you recieve
this book as a gift, it's good, but I would recommend buying it unless you have
experience in customizing
Destiny's Child
Anyone who has ever seen a single Destiny's Child video or performance knows
that these ladies mean business. They are like women with lyrical whips, doling
out punishment to all the players out there. Beyonce, Kelly and Michelle -- the
new (and final) Destiny's Child -- have taken "girl power" to a whole new level
thanks to their sexy image, amazing moves, hard work, and unbelievable talent.
We just can't get enough of them, and it seems that neither can their millions
of worldwide fans (including U2's Bono).
The funny part is that for all their mature lyrics, the girls of Destiny's Child
are still children -- at least they were when they started their ascent to
musical success. With Beyonce serving as cowriter for most of the songs, dad
Matthew Knowles as the group's manager, mom Tina as their stylist and designer,
and cousin Kelly as one of the prominent forces of the group, destiny really can
be a family affair.
personality & talent 87
Most of the singing and songwriting is done by the supremely talented Beyonce
Knowles, who has a great vocal range and serves as the poster girl for the
group. Although Kelly and Michelle are considered mostly "backup" singers, they
proved that they could indeed take a lead role with their solo album releases.
With a total of 22 gold, platinum and multi-platinum RIAA certifications between
their first three hit albums and several chart-topping singles, Destiny's Child
is proof that talent is necessary in order to retain a foothold atop the music
industry, and that looks and clever marketing tactics are not enough (see the
Spice Girls).
As for personality, this is where the real problems lie within the group. Tales
of backstabbing, diva-like behavior and jealousy have plagued Destiny's Child
ever since their 1997 debut. But who really knows why former members LaTavia
Roberson and LeToya Luckett left the group at a time when fame was only on the
rise? Even new member Farrah Franklin, who joined the group around the same time
as Michelle Williams, left at a crucial moment. It kinda makes us wonder how bad
it could have been, to give up fame and fortune due to creative differences and
exhaustion.
But on camera, Beyonce, Kelly and Michelle seem to be as close as sisters, and
it looks like they have matured in the midst of all their success.
sexiness 90
From their sexy dance moves onstage and in music videos (you only need to watch
the "Bootylicious" video to know what we're referring to), Destiny's Child's sex
appeal is sky-high. Often included in "Sexiest Women in Music" lists (Beyonce
tops those lists on her own), the ladies of DC3 ooze sexiness from their every
pore... any many pores are visible when they step out on the red carpet and
onstage.
accomplishments & fame 91
How much time do you have?
Even before their multiple-award wins and multi-platinum albums, Destiny's Child
broke ground as a foursome with their self-titled album in 1998. Destiny's Child
spawned the hit single "No, No, No" and featured collaborations with producer
Wyclef Jean, as well as Pras and Master P. The girls were on the scene and could
be heard on the soundtracks for Men in Black and Life, and seen opening for
popular R&B acts like TLC.
In 1999, The Writing's On The Wall was released and went on to sell more than
nine million copies worldwide on the strength of hits like "Bills, Bills,
Bills," "Jumpin, Jumpin" and "Say My Name." Presenters said their name all
right, as the girls won a slew of awards, including the NAACP Image Award in the
Outstanding Duo or Group category, four Billboard Music Awards as Artist of the
Year, Artist of the Year -- Duo/Group, Hot 100 Singles Artist of the Year, and
Hot 100 Singles Duo/Group of the Year, and two Grammys for "Say My Name."
But while Destiny's Child were on top of the world and the charts, the group
experienced problems when members LeToya Luckett and LaTavia Roberson decided to
leave, blaming manager (and Beyonce's dad) Matthew Knowles as the main problem.
Michelle Williams and Farrah Franklin joined the group in February 2000, but
Franklin called it quits in August, apparently due to extreme fatigue.
Michelle Williams stuck it out, and today, Destiny's Child is one of the
best-selling female groups of all time, having sold more than 20 million albums
and eight million singles. Among those albums are 2001's Survivor and 8 Days of
Christmas, and even 2002's remix album This Is The Remix.
Destiny's Child also contributed to the Charlie's Angels soundtrack, with the
chart-topping "Independent Women Part I," and added a word to the
Merriam-Webster Dictionary: bootylicious.
It's clear that these ladies are destined to remain a force in pop culture, and
even proved they could do it on their own with each member releasing a solo
album (Williams has released two so far), and Beyonce and Kelly even making the
crossover into film.
Beyonce, Michelle and Kelly will have even more time to pursue their personal
projects when they go their separate ways in fall of 2005. While on tour in
support of their Destiny Fulfilled album, the trio announced that they are
calling it quits once the tour ends.
natural beauty 84
Beyonce Knowles is one of the most beautiful women in entertainment (if not the
world). Add two beauties like Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland, and Destiny's
Child is one gorgeous goddess. Each member has distinguishing traits: Beyonce
has the body, face and skin to render any man weak at the knees; Kelly Rowland
has the figure of a swimsuit model; and Michelle Williams has the eyes and smile
to make us fall in love.
personal style 88
With (Beyonce's mother) Tina Knowles as the group's in-house stylist and
designer, Beyonce, Kelly and Michelle always step out in the sexiest and
flashiest outfits we have ever seen on a girl group. Whenever they perform at
awards shows, they undergo several costume changes and each wear different
versions of the same outfit. We know we already mentioned it, but check out the
"Bootylicious" video for the true definition of "body-hugging" attire.
